How ratings work
Every rated game starts at 1200 points. After each game your rating moves depending on the result and on the strength of your opponent: beating someone stronger earns more, losing to someone weaker costs more.
Your rating only changes after games against people: quick online games and lobbies with friends. Games against the computer are practice and never touch the rating. New players gain and lose faster until their rating settles.
Leaving a ranked game counts as a loss, and the same two friends can only gain rating from a limited number of games per day – so the table stays honest.
